Teaching Assistant Certificate Course The Teaching Assistant Certificate course has been very carefully designed to develop your knowledge in a straightforward and stimulating way, with each new Study Unit building logically on what has gone before. You are required to study a total of seven units - the four Core Units (Units 1 - 4), plus three of the Optional Units (5 – 9). By the time you have covered the four Core Units you will be ready to decide which of the three Optional Units fit best with your personal interests and ambitions. Importantly, you do not need to have an in-school placement in order to complete this course. Nor do you need any prior classroom or teaching experience. However, we do advice that if you have no prior classroom experience you do an in-school placement, to help you gain experience needed. Study Plan: The course aims to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the key skills required in a classroom support role. In particular, it will cover supporting the teacher, supporting the pupil, supporting the school and supporting the curriculum. CORE UNITS Unit 1 - Supporting the Teacher Unit 2 - Supporting the Pupil Unit 3 - Supporting the Curriculum Unit 4 - Supporting the School OPTIONAL UNITS By choosing three of the following Units you can tailor your course to match your particular interests Unit 5 - Supporting ICT in the classroom Unit 6 - Supporting Pupils with Special Educational Needs Unit 7 - Supporting Literary Development Unit 8 - Supporting Numeracy Development Unit 9 - Working with Others

Assignments: At the end of each of the seven Units you study you will be asked to complete a written assignment, which you can then submit to your personal tutor. This will enable your tutor to keep a careful eye on your progress, offer helpful feedback, and ensure you’re getting the very most from your training. On completion of your course, you will receive two qualifications: Qualification 1: Teaching Assistant Diploma: Teaching Assistant Diploma issued by Paramount Training College, entitling you to use the letters PTC Dip after your name. Qualification 2: ASET Level 3 Teaching Assistant Award: This Course leads to an ASET Level 3 Award Certificate for successful learners. That means that it is independently accredited at a level of learning equivalent to Level 3 on the National Qualifications Framework (NFQ) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland Progression: On completion you may progress to a full teaching qualification, Certificate of Education (Cert Ed)
