This course is a Level 2 National Award accredited by ASET
Previous experience required: Some basic construction/DIY experience
During this course the student will be given the opportunity to get hands on experience of fitting a kitchen, starting from the obvious point of removing all of the old units previously in place in the workspace. In a team of four students you will then build a new kitchen fit for use. While the kitchen will be built by a team, everyone will get the opportunity to practice every part of the course.
The course comprises of the following elements:
Identifying and working safely around hidden pipes and cables
Assembling “flat pack” kitchen units
Installing a range of kitchen units into the kitchen
Cutting, scribing and fitting work surfaces
Seamless jointing using jig and router
Fitting and plumbing kitchen sink and sink waste pipe
Wall plastering to tiling standard
Tiling and grouting
Unfortunately this course does not include wiring plug sockets, fitting gas or electric cooker units or wiring lighting as it is recommended or a legal requirement that this type of work be carried out by an engineer with the relevant qualifications (e.g. 17th edition for electrical or Corgi registered gas installer for gas)
