What topics are covered by the course?

In this one-hour session we will use a model box the miniature model of the set which the designer produces for preparatory work on a play to discuss staging.

What will I be able to do on completion?

Attendees will be able to find the most effective way of putting a play onstage. This involves important initial decisions such as where entrances and exits should be located, and what physical and psychological spaces are to be represented by different areas of the stage.

In this one-hour session we will use a model box - the miniature model of the set which the designer produces for preparatory work on a play - to discuss staging. Directors work with the actors and designer to find the most effective way of putting a play onstage. This involves important initial decisions such as where entrances and exits should be located, and what physical and psychological spaces are to be represented by different areas of the stage. We will discuss how these decisions are made and what effect they have on the final production.
