“Governance - the leadership, direction and control of the organisation” This day will bring together the fundamental aspects of a coherent and comprehensive approach to good governance which achieves good management, good performance, better outcomes and good public engagement. “Partnerships – a relationship between two or more independent parties, normally designed to secure a shared business advantage” The public sector in the UK has increasingly adopted a variety of “partnership arrangements” to secure results such as better services, better value or better outcomes for those who use public services. In addition public sector partnerships have to ensure sound financial accountability and stewardship of resources. COURSE OBJECTIVES The day will therefore consider the importance of – The purpose of the partnership and focusing on delivering better outcomes; The functions and roles of officers and members; Promoting values for the partnership and demonstrating these through high standards & behaviour; Taking informed, transparent decisions which are subject to scrutiny and managing risk; developing the capacity and capability of members and officers to be effective; engaging with local people and other stakeholders to ensure robust public accountability.
