How are CPD credits recorded (CPD points and hours):
A CPD scheme from a professional body or employer can either be structured as an ‘Input’ or ‘Output’ based scheme.

• An ‘Input’ based scheme lists a precise number of CPD hours that individuals must achieve within a given time period. Usually 1 CPD point = 1 hour of learning.
• An ‘Output’ based scheme is learner centred and requires individuals to set learning goals that align to professional competencies, or personal development objectives.

Both schemes typically ask individuals to record their learning in a formal CPD portfolio (increasingly via an on-line tool) and reflect on the professional development they have achieved over the course of the year. It is ultimately the responsibility of the delegate to evaluate their learning.
