Introduction to Mammalian Cell Culture - Laboratory Training Course

What topics are covered by the course?

The course will cover practical tuition in the below areas:

Requirements for successful cell culture
Resuscitation and Cryopreservation of cells
Experience using adherent and suspension cell lines
Measuring cell number and viability
Preparation of cells for microscopy
Identification of apoptosis
Conclusion lecture covering the uses of mammalian cell
culture in research

Who should attend?

The Introduction to Mammalian Cell Culture course is designed to compliment degree level bioscience courses and allow students to gain real world skills in a short amount of time for substantially less financial investment than an MSc or PhD.

For students wishing to enter pharmaceutical or toxicology research, the skills learned during the mammalian cell culture course can be further developped by attending our 'Practical skills in drug discovery' laboratory based training course.

What will I be able to do on completion?

Students can use this course to gain hands on experience in human and animal cell culture for use in many different academic and industrial sectors. These transferrable skills are highly valued by employers and will improve a students CV and provide skills to aid entry into graduate level technician and reasearch positions

We employ leading researchers from industry and academia to teach on the course and encourage networking between students and researchers during the lunch times. We pride ourselves in offering a complete service to help bioscience students secure the jobs they want.

How will I be assessed?

There is no assessment at present, however our student to lecturer ratios are very low meaning that students requiring further tuition on a particular area are able to repeat a technique until they feel confident in their own ability
