What topics are covered by the course?

What you will study

Whilst studying on this BTEC Diploma you will learn about:

• How to design and how to produce drawings and specifications
• How to plan organise and control of resources used in the Civil Engineering sector
• How to survey a site and then use the information from the survey to calculate quantities
• How to set out works for construction
• How to measure works, estimate quantities and tender for civil engineering work

In addition you will develop maths and science skills applied to Civil engineering.

Who should attend?

5 GCSEs at A*-C (or new grade 9-4), including English, Maths and a science subject. A grade B (or new grade 6) in maths is preferred

What will I be able to do on completion?

Further study

Typically learners progress to a second year to complete an Extended Diploma. However some learners do progress to employment and return to study the Higher National Certificate on day release.
Career opportunities

This course will enable you to progress your career into areas such as architecture, quantity surveying, building surveying, civil engineering and building services engineering. These jobs combine both office and on –site based activities.

How will I be assessed?

All units are assessed through assignment work completed throughout the academic year that will show how you applied the knowledge gained. Some of these assignments will be based around practical work carried out during the unit session.
All assignment work has to be completed within the timescales provided and is restricted to a single submission. In extreme cases an extension of time can be granted by the internal verifier and one resubmission granted.
