Established in 1990, Williams and Cleal Furniture has built an enviable reputation. With a small team of virtuoso craftspeople we are now acknowledged to be a leading furniture workshop. Principally driven by Jane Cleal's passion for furniture and teaching, we have decided it is now time to share our knowledge and experience. With limited places, this is a rare and exciting opportunity to be part of a unique experience. Aim We are offering an unparalleled one year full time course in fine furniture making and design. Our aim is to provide aspiring designer/makers with the necessary making skills and professionalism to pursue their ambitions, either through personal self-development or the acquisition of business and management skills. The opportunity is unique because the staff and the working environment provide an ideal and complementary range of expertise.

All the staff are supportive, highly skilled and passionate about furniture. The partners of Williams and Cleal will play key roles on this course. Jane, as principal and tutor, brings over 20 years experience of working as a partner in the business. An award winning designer and maker, she also has a proven track record as a higher education lecturer and department head. Justin Williams is not only a highly skilled craftsperson, but has 17 years practical experience of establishing and running a highly successful furniture making business. As workshop tutor, James Ralph will provide hands-on tutoring in making skills and workshop techniques. He worked for ten years with internationally renowned John Makepeace OBE and was responsible for making a number of award winning pieces of furniture as well as passing on his own skills to apprentices. The fourth member of staff is Timothy Alcock, a skilled designer and maker who will also be available to assist in the workshop. Finally, Sue Bennett is on hand to help in her role as course administrator.
