What topics are covered by the course?

The course is delivered by qualified trainers who are practising community mediators; one trainer per six delegates.

Who should attend?

This course is suited to anyone of any age, background and experience, wishing to gain a practical insight into conflict and the mediation process.

What will I be able to do on completion?

Upon completion of the course, students will have the necessary skills to mediate neighbour disputes, with a thorough understanding of conflict and communication.

How will I be assessed?

There are then 3 options:

1. Attendance Certificate – £375 course fee
You will be eligible, should you wish, to gain experience volunteering as a mediator with CALM, subject to vacancies

2. Fully Accredited Mediation Practitioner– £1,125

Candidates who commit to completing the 14 short written assignments within three months following the course, benefit from a 30% saving (see option 3). The assignments will consolidate your learning and enhance the self-reflection of your practice. Candidates who pass both the practical assessment and the essays will be awarded a fully accredited mediation practitioner qualification. This will also allow you, should you wish, to gain experience as a volunteer mediator with CALM, subject to vacancies.

3. Deferred Full Accreditation (up to 2 years) – total £1,600
This option is available to candidates who have already successfully gained the Attendance Certificate and, within 24 months, decide to progress to full accreditation as a qualified mediation practitioner. You will submit 14 short written assignments to an agreed timetable of deadlines. The accreditation and other benefits are as described in (2) above.

There are a maximum of 12 places available. Acceptance criteria include satisfying the person specification, demonstration of an understanding of mediation and a good level of self-awareness.
