Week 1
GCA under full instruction preceded with practical in-depth demos
Monday after your initial induction we move straight on to mechanical fixing of plasterboards fixing ceilings and taping the joins, use of hawk and trowel practice then skimming in the afternoon after demos.
Tuesday setting your angle beads first thing then floating the walls flat and level using featheredges then devil floating to close in and create a mechanical key for the finish plaster
Wednesday prepare your walls for skimmming then skim the walls, carry out repairs to ceilings and walls, carry out a knowledge test
Thursday carry out a glue float and set using backing plaster, re-skim ceiling and re-skim remaining walls
Friday cove ceilings (assessed) and finish rooms with a sand and cement floor screed to finished floor level

Week 2
AGCA under instruction with practical demos and Assessments for level 2
Monday Induction, then straight into boarding your ceilings (assessed), set float beads (assessed), skim ceilings 2 coat method
Tuesday float walls flat and level ready for skimming, free form external corners (assessed), mark out walls for and fix direct bond incorporating arches or bulls-eye windows then tape joins (assessed)
Wednesday fix thin coat beads, skim floated and boarded walls using advancements of the typewriter method for speed, (assessed), apply texture coating to ceilings using a selection of pre demo patterns ready for 3 coat skim on Thursday
Thursday prepare textured ceiling for 3 coat trowel float trowel re-skim (assessed) or re-skim barrel ceiling, re-skim walls, use of internal and external trowels (assessed)
Friday floor screeding flat and level, gradient shower screeds, roof screeds (assessed)

Week 3
your NVQ level 2 plastering course incorporates Assessments, estimating, pricing and portfolio building
You will survey your allocated room for materials required to completely plaster the ceiling and walls for your customer, this will incorporate boarding the ceiling and direct bond as well as beading and floating walls, plus fix ornate cornice and center piece, then finish the room with a flat and level floor screed. you will price this job at an average rate given for labour costs and material costs.
you will then carry out this work to and above the required industry standards working clean and efficiently
you will be assessed throughout for every unit completed.
confidence building estimating exercises with standard terms and conditions of contracts and samples of original estimates supplied.
portfolio building, you will be supplied with a ring binder for your NVQ and together you will start to complete your portfolio with one of the Goldtrowel CITB NVQ assessors.
free time is given to students to work on any mandatory or non mandatory unit(s) that the student would benefit from further training and instruction
