What topics are covered by the course?

SSG use the UK's leading Security qualifications. Which have been accredited by the regulators of England, Wales and Northern Ireland (Ofqual, DfES and CCEA) and is part of the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). It is supported by Skills for Security, the Sector Skills Body for the security industry. These qualifications aim to provide a broad knowledge of the security industry. There are three main area covered, security guarding, Door Supervision and CCTV. The units cover a wide range of subjects that learners will find useful in a variety of roles particularly in providing potential progression routes to supervisory roles e.g. leadership skills and risk assessment.

Who should attend?

It is advised that learners have a minimum of Level 1 in literacy or numeracy or equivalent. The qualification is aimed at learners aged 18 and over due to age restrictions on applying for a licence.

What will I be able to do on completion?

Work in the private security industry, career progression and further learning routes could include: Level 2 Certificate in Providing Security Services Further learning in other areas of the Private Security Industry e.g. Close Protection or Cash and Valuable in Transit.

How will I be assessed?

This qualification is made up of four mandatory units, three of which are assessed through multiple choice exams. Learners must successfully complete the assessments for the units to achieve the qualification. The SIA stipulate a minimum number of contact hours per unit. Contact hours are defined as time spent with a tutor or trainer, or during the assessment.

Under the Private Security Industry Authority Act 2001, all individuals wishing to work in the private security industry must undertake a recognised qualification before applying for a licence.

The HABC Level 2 Award in Door Supervision has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It is based on the relevant SIA Specifications for Learning and Qualifications and provides the necessary skills and knowledge for learners who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a Security Operative within the private security industry.
The SIA recognised Level 2 Award in Door Supervision or Security Guarding and CCTV will enable you to apply to the SIA for a Security licence, and by obtaining this SIA licence you will increase your employment opportunities.

Level 2 Award in CCTV Operations (Public Space Surveillance) This award provides the necessary skills and knowledge for those who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a CCTV Operative and consists of 3 units.

Level 2 Award in Door Supervision This award provides the necessary skills and knowledge for learners who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a Door Supervisor within the private security industry and consists of 4 units.

Level 2 Award in Security Guarding This award provides the necessary knowledge and understanding for those who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a security guard within the private security industry and consists of 3 units.

Level 3 Certificate in Close Protection This award provides the necessary skills and knowledge for those who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a Close Protection Operative. This qualification comprises 1 unit: Working as a Close Protection Operative.
