The course is split into two sessions, theory and practical. The theory / classroom session is more or less the same for both office and operational staff. The session consists of a Powerpoint presentation, question and answer topics, tuition, discussion, props and video. It provides a solid base on aspects of regulation, employer / employee obligation, the effects and consequences of bad lifting technique, causes and remedies of upper limb disorders and an introduction to good lifting practices and risk assessment. The practical session can tailored to the individual group. For office based staff for example, movement of loads such as copier paper, bulky or oversize archive boxes, monitors, water bottles and awkward computer equipment. For warehouse and industrial staff, movement of pallets, generators, heavy items, team lifting, awkward loads and lifting to and from vehicles and platforms. There can also be more emphasis on pushing and pulling techniques as these are important areas that are sometimes overlooked. After the course I am available to look at individual tasks and provide one to one specialist instruction. The course is conducted in house and lasts approximately 2 hours. All delegates receive a certificate valid for 2 years.
