Programme Synopsis
Deal with electrical safety including electrical shock and associated procedures
Follow correct procedure for isolation, including locking off and permit to work
Demonstrate an understanding of circuit theory
Recognise voltage levels found on industrial installations
Safely use a variety of test instruments to measure voltage, current resistance and insulations resistance.
Demonstrate an awareness of the IEE 16th Edition Regulations and Electricity & Work Regulations
Identify and terminate various types of cables and fittings found in industrial installations
Recognise electrical symbols to BS3939 and to follow circuit diagrams to diagnose simple faults
Demonstrate an understanding of the need for earthing and bonding
Safely disconnect and reconnect single phase and 3 phase supplies to starters and motors.
Appreciate the use of excess current devices
Understand the use of relays and contactors show familiarity with a range of the more common AC motors starters e.g. DOL – REV – STAR DELTA
Understand the use of remote control devices and follow basic fault finding procedures
