All security operatives in the private security industry must be licensed by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). To become licensed you must first attend and pass a security training course. Once you have received your SIA door supervisor’s licence you can work as one or more of the following:

The 4 day training course is in four parts:

Unit 1: Working in the private security industry - relevant legislation, health and safety, fire safety, workplace emergencies, effective communication and customer care.

Unit 2: Working as a door supervisor - law, access control and searching, arrest, drugs, incident recording and crime scene preservation, licensing law and social responsibility, safety and security.

Unit 3: Conflict Management - the prevention and management of conflict, risk management, de-escalation of conflict, problem solving, effective teamwork and learning from conflict.

Unit 4: Physical Intervention - health and safety, legal and medical implications of using force, incident reporting, disengagement, escorting and holding skills.
