EAL Level 1 Award in Introductory Welding Skills - MIG (Metal Inert Gas)
The EAL level 1 welding courses will allow trainees to develop the practical skills required to perform welding in the flat and horizontal/vertical positions. The candidate will produce welds and visually access that they are fit for purpose against the requirements of the weld procedure (WPS) provided within the unit measure assessment. Furthermore the welding trainee will learn the fundamental underpinning knowledge relevent to the MIG, TIG or MMA welding process including, safety, use of welding equipment and choice of consumables.
The qualification is intended to provide a level of knowledge that will allow fundamental welding to take place safely and provide the base level of knowledge and skill to allow progression onto EAL level 2 qualifications.

What is this qualification?
The qualification was developed to fill an identified gap in the market for an introductory level welding qualification.
The level 1 VRQ is designed to have a 'hands on' practical approach to introductory welding training and as such to
support approved retention and attainment at Level 1.
The qualification has been developed in close consultation with colleges, training associations and industry to ensure that the qualification meets the needs of the engineering and education sectors.

Assessment
The assessment for this qualification will include 5 practical tasks and a knowledge test.
Each task will not exceed 45 minutes.
1.Produce beads on plate in the PA flat position
2.Product a lap fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position
3.Produce a tee filler weld in the PA flat position
4.Produce a tee fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position
5.Produce a corner weld in the PA flat position
6.A theory test covering the Process and Health & Safety requirements for MIG/MAG welding
