A two-day hands-on workshop for massage therapists, aromatherapists, shiatsu practitioners, reflexologists, doulas and midwives. Acupressure is a practical, easy to deliver therapy to promote natural birth and a healthy pregnancy. The skills learnt will enable those attending, to both teach birth support people techniques for pain relief during labour and learn techniques they can use for specific problems occurring during pregnancy, through and after labour. It closely follows the teachings of New Zealand acupuncturist Debra Betts, who has pioneered the use of acupressure in pregnancy and labour and is delivered with her permission and approval. We cover Acupressure to help many of the discomforts of pregnancy such as backache, morning sickness, anxiety, constipation etc. Acupressure to induce labour, when it is safe and appropriate to do so. Acupressure for pain relief and post-partum care (eg pains, breast feeding). We look at the evidence that shows that natural labour induction can be achieved safely and effectively with acupressure. We also look at practical dietary advice from a traditional Chinese medicine perspective for pregnancy and postpartum.
