This 3 hour course is appropriate for Managers, Supervisors, Carers and Support staff working in any Health and Social Care environment.
It is an introductory programme that would be beneficial to all staff who have not accessed training on Challenging Behaviour in the past or to refresh previous training.
Learning Outcomes:
Delegates will:
1. Be aware of the effects of Challenging Behaviour on staff, service users and the Business.
2. Be aware of any relevant legislation concerning a safe working environment.
3. Identify categories of Challenging Behaviour.
4. Identify causes of Challenging Behaviour.
5. Identify strategies for dealing with Challenging Behaviour.
6. Be aware of the need for reporting and recording of incidents.

The term "Challenging Behaviour" is intended to remove the negative view of the client - the difficulty lies NOT with the client, but with the challenge their behaviour presents to you and those around them.
Course Content:
1. Negative effects of Challenging Behaviour.
2. Legislation.
3. Categories of Challenging Behaviour.
4. Causes of Challenging Behaviour.
5. Signs of impending conflict.
6. Assessing Risk of Violence.
7. Dealing with Challenging Behaviour.
8. De-escalation techniques.
9. Reporting and recording.
10. Staff support.
11. Deprivation of libert.
The course contains group discussions where delegates can develop strategies for identifying causes of and managing Challenging Behaviour.
Numbers on the course are limited to 20 candidates to allow for group exercises and discussions.
Course handouts are provided. Certificates will be issued and provide evidence towards City & Guilds Diplomas in Health & Social Care Levels 2 and 3.
