Hostage Taking Course(The Golden Hour) No Examinations required

This course is aimed at members of the Security Industry and is currently delivered to staff working in Universities, Hospitals and Shopping Centres.

The course is of one days duration and is made up in two parts.

Part 1 is about an hour and covers power of arrest and search for the security officer. This should be a refresher for them.

Part 2 is a brief introduction to the types of hostage taking followed by a paperfeed exercise. The group is divided up dependent upon experience and not rank. A situation unfolds in front of them which requires them to look at the information provided and to record decisions as to the actions they would take from the perspective of a controller, security officer and supervisor. The situation is of one hours duration but lasts for five hours after discussion and feedback are taken into account.

The emphasis is on helping the officer to understand that they are in charge for the first hour before the emergency services arrive, what actions they could/should take, information to be gathered and records to be maintained.

A handout will be provided at the end of the course with ome useful tips as a refresher.

Do you work in an environment where you have to think clearly and respond rather than react? You are on patrol and an argument takes place in front of you, one of the persons holds the other against their will and takes them into a room threatening violence to them if anyone comes near. Would you know what to do? You may call for the Police but for the first hour it is all down to your actions whether the person is harmed or released safely. You and your team have control of that situation which is why it is so important that you know what to do.

It could be a student has failed exams and takes a lecturer, a crime goes wrong and the victim is held against their will, a doctor cannot treat a child patient who is seriously ill and the parent holds them hostage?

There is no examination and the successful candidate will be issued with a Institute of Conflict Management Certificate upon completion.

The cost of the course is £150 plus vat and can be delivered in house or at hotel meeting rooms.
The trainer is a retired Detective Superintendent and National Trained Hostage Negotiator with experience of kidnap and suicide intervention.
