Specifically designed for childminders and persons employed in the care of young children and babies
The course syllabus complies with the guideline issued by the Department of Education and the Surestart programme. Normally run over 2 days (minimum of 12 hours training), however it can be run as a modular course in sessions of 3 or 4 hours to suit home or work commitments.
During the course students are taught:
· Emergency Planning.
· Recording and reporting accidents
· First aid kits
· Incident management
· Management of an unconscious baby and child
· Choking and obstructed airway
· Breathing disorders including whooping cough and croup
· Control of bleeding,
· Shock and
· Cleansing of wounds
· Nose bleeds,
· Foreign object in the eyes, ears and nose
· Burns and scalds
· Electric shock
· Fractures including spinal neck and head injuries
· Poisons and allergic reactions including anaphylaxis, bites and stings
· Extremes of temperature including febrile convulsions
· Childhood illness including:-
· Meningitis
· Epilepsy
· Sickle cell
· Diabetes
· Measles
· Chicken pox
· Heat rash
