Digital SLR Photography - beginners

This is a practical two day course which will help you to understand and use the full functionality of your SLR to take the best images. Many people have SLR Cameras with a wealth of features that go largely unused. The course is for both novices and amateur photographers and will provide the skills to unleash the power and technology of your camera and capture great photos.

No previous experience necessary, you will need your own camera and a thirst for knowledge!

GETTING FAMILIAR WITH YOUR SLR

Understanding picture formats, white balance, colour temperature, ISO and your cameras automatic functions: landscape, portrait, night time etc


UNDERSTANDING EXPOSURE

You will learn how shutter speed, ISO and aperture work together to create correct exposure


TAKING AND PREVIEWING PICTURES

You will learn what makes a good photograph and how to preview and review your images


WORKING WITH SHUTTER SPEEDS TO TAKE BETTER PICTURES

You will learn how different shutter speed settings affect your images and how to use the shutter speed to create different effects and capture movement

FINESSING YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY

The course will look at the composition of images, the rule of thirds, and the importance of perspective


UNDERSTANDING AND USING APERTURE SETTINGS TO GET A BETTER PICTURE

You will learn how different aperture settings alter the picture you take. You will learn to change the depth of field with different aperture settings and how to use the aperture setting to creating different effects.


MORE ADVANCED CAMERA SETTINGS

You will learn how and when to over-ride the automatic settings, and to understand histograms and exposure. You will work with your camera's built-in flash and also learn how to over-ride it, and finally you will look at different camera lenses and the effects they create.
