APNT Sports Injuries & Massage Diploma: Taught by Jane Johnson (Chartered Physiotherapist). This Sports Injuries & Massage Diploma Course is open to all therapists with a basic massage qualification. The purpose of sports massage therapy as opposed to a normal relaxing massage is to help alleviate the stress and tension which builds up in the body’s soft tissues during physical activity. When minor injuries occur, either due to overexertion and/or overuse, sports massage can be used to help alleviate them quickly and effectively. This type of massage will help to drain away fatigue, relieve swelling, reduce muscle tension, promote flexibility, prevent injuries and in the case of sports people, prepare their body for peak performance. Sports massage can help prevent niggling injuries that often get in the way of performance and achievement, whether a person is an athlete , a person who only jogs once a week or a person who is just very physically active in their everyday life Sports massage is not restricted just to sports injuries. It will also enable you to treat everyday injuries and aches and pains, even injuries that people have from everyday work! You will you be able to offer a much more effective and specialised treatments to your both your existing massage clients and also to the ever growing number of people taking part in sport, and physical exercise. The demand for sports massage is also increasing rapidly and becoming more and more recognised as a specialised skill which can aid physical recovery and enhance performance. This intensive and wide-ranging course will give a massage therapist, many specific techniques to help your clients the topics covered include: · ANATOMY & INJURIES OF Neck Shoulder Wrist and Hand Lower Leg Ankle Upper Back Elbow Thigh Knee · SURFACE ANATOMY, PALPATION & MOVEMENT · PREVENTION OF INJURY – A PRIORITY · RECOGNITION & MANAGEMENT OF COMMON INJURIES · MUSCULO-SKELETAL IMBALANCES · JOINT MOBILIZATIONS · CRYOTHERAPY (ICE TREATMENT) · HEAT THERAPY · RICE : Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation · BANDAGING – TAPING & STRAPPING · SCIENCE OF STRETCHING & SAFE STRETCHING TECHNIQUES - active v passive - soft tissue release (STR) - neuromuscular technique (NMT) on tender spots - muscle energy technique (MET) - post-isometric relaxation (PIR) · PRINCIPLES OF REHABILITATION · STRENGTHENING/MUSCLE-SPECIFIC EXERCISES · PRACTICAL APPLICATION OF SPORTS MASSAGE TECHNIQUES • Pre and Post events • To reduce muscle fatigue • physiological benefits • massage to muscle bellies • assessing the state of muscle • improving circulation • aiding lymphatic drainage • relaxation of muscles • muscle toning • reduction of scar tissue • fibrosis • adhesions · COMMUNICATION SKILLS, CONSULTATIONS & HISTORY TAKING · PROFESSIONAL & ETHICAL CONDUCT The course is primarily very practical in content and you will be required to have a Massage Couch and appropriate workwear during the course at home to practice on clients. Student insurance is mandatory for this course from the APNT. The APNT Sports Massage Course requires you complete 120 hours home practice including case studies, a project, a 1/2 hour practical examination and a 3 hour theory paper. On successful completion of this diploma course it will provide you with the title of "Sports Massage Therapist", and you will have the comprehensive knowledge and techniques needed to give a very effective treatment. Practitioner insurance is also available upon successful completion of the course. APNT (The Association of Physical and Natural Therapists) is a member of the British Complementary Medicine Association (BCMA) and was formed in 1986 to examine and represent therapists who have undergone thorough training to professional standards. It plays an active role in setting and maintaining high standards in both the training and practice of Bodywork Practitioners. On completion of the Diploma graduates can benefit from insurance cover, professional representation, a register of graduates and a newsletter. It is mandatory that APNT students register with the APNT for their APNT Sports Massage Diploma. (£90 - including £15 APNT Student Membership Registration) Payable Direct to APNT Course Cost: £895 (this can be paid in installments) - Deposit of £150 payable upon registering with the Natural Health School.
