Details: This is a beginner’s course, which assumes no prior experience and is intended to be both enjoyable and informative. It introduces basic navigation, including chartwork, position fixing, tides, buoyage, and passage planning as well as the essential subjects of safety and meteorology. The course is equally suited to both sail and powerboat users. With the increasing use of modern electronic aids to navigation, an introduction to the safe use of G.P.S. is also included. This course is essential preparation for the RYA Day Skipper Practical Course. A small amount of study in the student’s own time will be required. The student is assessed by short practice exercises during the course and two final exercises towards the end of the course. A course completion certificate is issued to students who successfully complete the course. The shorebased courses are held in our modern classroom and include all Course materials, Charts, RYA Pack, lunch, morning and afternoon tea
