In this seminar we will look at the key requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998, what constitutes "data", the requirement for notification to the Information Commissioner and the eight "data protection principles" which govern how data should be processed.

We will look at the impact of the Durant case, a Court of Appeal decision which affected the interpretation of "data" covered by the Act. We will consider "sensitive data" and the special requirements for processing it; data protection and direct marketing; CCTV; and the rights of "data subjects".
