This course enables delegates to gain an understanding of the Windows 2000 Professional environment and competence using the following functions and features:




Windows 2000 Essentials - identify and use the key components of 2000; log in and out of 2000; change the password; locking the PC; context menus




Window Manipulation - the Window control menu; moving, sizing, minimising and maximising Windows; scrolling; dialog boxes




My Computer - starting My Computer; disk drives; control panel; printers




Using Online Help - getting help; searching help topics; defined terms; help shortcuts




The Taskbar - the Start menu; running applications; opening recently viewed/edited files; moving,


resizing and hiding the taskbar; the notification area; expanding Start menu items; customising the Start menu; advanced Start menu settings




The Desktop - system icons; customising the desktop; Active Desktop; folders; My Documents


Folder; My Pictures; changing views; files; open with command; the recycle bin; file deletion; file recovery; emptying the recycle bin




Views - identify and use the view options available in 2000




Files & Folders - create and delete files & folders; copy and move files & folders, use the Send To command on files




Drag & Drop - use drag and drop to move and copy files, use special drag and drop




Shortcuts - create and use shortcuts to access applications, files and folders




Windows Explorer - use Explorer to create folders, move and copy files and locate files on the computer, understand file name conventions within 2000




Printers - view the status of print jobs, set up a printer, set the default printer




System Tools - use the Control Panel to access system settings, monitor the performance of the PC




Network Neighbourhood - My Network Places; share printers and folders on peer-to-peer networks
