To enable the candidates to be able to safely work on electrical equipment in the home.
The candidates would also be told of the Part P building regulations and what work they can and cannot undertake in the home.
Calculations of cable sizing and typical fault ratings of circuits in the home.
The use of test equipment and safe working practices.
This would include replacing an electrical fitting, socket outlets, control switches and ceiling roses. Replacing the cable, for a single circuit only, where damaged e.g. by fire or rodent damage or impact. (Like for like replacement)
Reaffixing or replacing the enclosures of existing installation components.
Adding lighting points (light fittings and switches) to an existing circuit. (But not in a kitchen or a special location and does not involve a special installation.)
Adding socket outlets and fused spurs to an existing ring or radial circuit.
Installing or upgrading main or supplementary equipotent bonding.
