What you will study

In classroom sessions you will look at Construction technology to gain an insight not only into the role of a plasterer but also into the whole construction process. You will study Health & Safety, and safe handling of materials to ensure that your working practices are safe. You will also start to learn how to produce and read drawings. In the workshops you will develop the practical skills required in plastering including the preparation and mixing of plaster materials and covering of various surfaces.

For those who did not achieve grade C or above at GCSE in English and Maths, Functional Skills qualifications will form an integral part of the course.

Your Course Structure

Classroom: 40%; Practical: 60%

How you will learn

Practical workshop sessions with demonstrations and hands-on activity, classroom sessions and tutorials.

For those learners who do not hold a formal qualification at level 2 (GCSE grade C or above) in English and Maths, Functional Skills will form an integral part of the course.

How you will be assessed

Assessment will be a series of multiple choice unit end tests and practical assessments, with an end of year practical assessment.

Entry Requirements

Acceptance on to this course is subject to suitable references from school or previous college/employment and a successful interview. In addition BKSB assessment scores are to be achieved at a minimum grade of Working at Entry Level 3 in both literacy and numeracy.

Attendance

Attendance is for three full days at College. Two days will be spent at our workshops at Lock Lane, with one day at the SkillsXchange
