What you will study

The course is offered by two routes, depending on whether you are aiming at a career involved in the management and design of the mechanical or electrical elements of a development. A short work placement is part of both routes.

The mandatory units for both options are:-

* Health, Safety and Welfare in Construction and the Built Environment.
* Sustainable Construction.
* Mathematics in Construction and the Built Environment.
* Science and Materials in Construction and the Built Environment.
* Building Services Control Systems.
* Building Services Science.

You will also complete:-

* Project in Construction.
* Employment Framework, with the assistance of a work placement.
* Personal and Professional Development.

MECHANICAL OPTION

* Low temperature hot water heating in Building Services Engineering.
* Plumbing Technology.
* Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

ELECTRICAL OPTION

* Electrical Principles in Building Services Engineering.
* Electrical Installation Design.
* Commissioning Electrical Installations.

Your Course Structure

Classroom: 60% Practical: 20%; Self-study: 10%; Work placement: 10%

How you will learn

Through a combination of formal and informal sessions including practical and resource based learning activities with tutorial back-up, plus a short work placement.

How you will be assessed

Through assignment work completed throughout the academic year that will show how you applied the knowledge gained.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs at grade A* - C including English, Mathematics and a Science subject.

Or

Suitable Level 2 qualification accompanied by GCSEs grade A* - C in English and Mathematics.

Attendance

Three days per week over 36 weeks. Part-time study over two years is also available.
