What’s covered?
Once you are booked on the course, you will receive a copy of our study guide. We highly recommend that you read this in detail and understand it’s principles, prior to attending the course. This will put you at the top of the class and make the course content a lot easier to understand.
Day 1 starts with an introduction and gets straight into the guts of a 4 hour theory session. We are going right back to basics. Starting with HSE, Regulations, the basic vapour compression cycle and pressure enthalpy charts. We then spend the afternoon covering brazing and safe working practices.
Day 2 and your itching to get on the rig. We understand, but there is more theory first. BSEN378, pressure testing, evacuation and dehydration. Charging with zeotropic refrigerants commissioning and recovery. You will be surprised how much you might have forgotten. Then its a practical session in the afternoon where we cover the assessment process and more safe working practices.
Day 3 exams. You love them really. You’ve been studying all night and your ready to go. The morning kicks off with with the online exams, so some of you will get extra time to study. But don’t worry. You will all get your turn. Then it’s practical assessments in the afternoon followed by a good solid handshake. Walking away with this qualification is something to be proud of.
Who wants to do it?
We all do. It’s a great course. You will be experienced in the industry and have already obtained a 2078 qualification.
What do you get for your money?
Course exams, self study booklet, sample questions and hopefully a fancy C&G 2079 Certificate.

This qualification is for those working within the refrigeration and air-conditioning industry who need to meet the legal requirements for working with Fluorinated Gases, otherwise known as F-Gases and other Ozone Depleting Substances. The course includes both theory and practical training on the requirements and procedures to test, fill and recover refrigerant and is based upon the Fluorinated and Greenhouse Gas Regulations 2009, EC842/006 and EC303/2008.
The course will cover the following 9 learning outcomes
■1 – Identify basic systems, terms, principles, units and how these relate to theory and thermodynamics of vaport compression cycles and refrigerants
■2 – Identify the causes and effects of global warming and climate change
■3 – Identify causes and effects of ozone depletion
■4 – Identify stationary refrigerant, air conditioning and heat pump system components, functions and leakage risk
■5 – Identify the hazards and safe working practices for the installation, commissioning and handling of refrigerants
■6 – Fabricate and examine pipework
■7 – Undertake pressure testing, evacuation and record completion
■8 – Undertake refrigerant charging, leak checking and record keeping
■9 – Undertake recovery of refrigerant and oil and prepare for disposal
The City & Guilds 2079 does not require renewal every three years. The assessment consists of a multiple choice question paper undertaken online and a practical assessment.
