To be booked on this course you must have the following:
C&G2078 – Safe Handling Certificate
Competant Brazing Skills
Knowledge of BSEN378:2008
Basic knowledge of Pressure Enthalpy Charts
What’s covered?
Once you are successfully booked on the course, you will receive a copy of our study guide. You will need to read this in detail and understand it’s principles, prior to attending the course. Day 1 kicks off with an introduction and swiftly leads into a brief 2 hour theory session. This is your chance to ask questions that you might have from from the study that you did at home. Then it’s straight into the practical, where we give you plenty of time to blow out the cobwebs and put any bad habits to rest.
Day 2 is all about assessments. It starts with your online assessment where depending on the Category of the qualification your are doing, you will complete up to 40 questions on a variety of RAC topics. 60% is the pass rate and then your onto the practical training rig to prove your worth. Being a very experienced engineer who was pre-selected for the course, we would envisage this to be a breeze. Having said that, you will be put through your paces by one of our qualified assessors who will test you on every area of the 2079 qualification.
Who wants to do it?
As we mentioned before, this course is only for very skilled and experienced engineers. You will not be booked if you cannot prove prior experience and qualifications. It’s also for engineers who simply cannot afford to take too much time off work. We are fully aware, that your ‘off the tools’ and not earning so this can be a good way to fast track the course and get you back on the road.

This qualification is for those working within the refrigeration and air-conditioning industry who need to meet the legal requirements for working with Fluorinated Gases, otherwise known as F-Gases and other Ozone Depleting Substances. The course includes both theory and practical training on the requirements and procedures to test, fill and recover refrigerant and is based upon the Fluorinated and Greenhouse Gas Regulations 2009, EC842/006 and EC303/2008.
The course will cover the following 9 learning outcomes
■1 – Identify basic systems, terms, principles, units and how these relate to theory and thermodynamics of vaport compression cycles and refrigerants
■2 – Identify the causes and effects of global warming and climate change
■3 – Identify causes and effects of ozone depletion
■4 – Identify stationary refrigerant, air conditioning and heat pump system components, functions and leakage risk
■5 – Identify the hazards and safe working practices for the installation, commissioning and handling of refrigerants
■6 – Fabricate and examine pipework
■7 – Undertake pressure testing, evacuation and record completion
■8 – Undertake refrigerant charging, leak checking and record keeping
■9 – Undertake recovery of refrigerant and oil and prepare for disposal
The City & Guilds 2079 does not require renewal every three years. The assessment consists of a multiple choice question paper undertaken online and a practical assessment.
