Massage is probably the oldest therapy known to man, and has been practised in the Far and Middle East for at least 5,000 years. The beneficial effects have been acknowledged for generations, and in these countries massage is a part of everyday activity, performed within the family from a very young age. The traditional art of Indian Head Massage is based on the ancient system of medicine known as Ayurveda, which has been practised in India for thousands of years. 'Champissage' comes from a Hindi word 'champi'. Being 'champi-ed' meant having your head massaged and it began as the way to keep your hair long in beautiful condition which has now become a part of daily life. The origin of shampoo came from 'champi'. Although it is easy to learn the basics of Indian Head Massage, this form of massage should not be taken lightly, it is both subtle and deep leaving the client feeling deeply relaxed, rejuvenated and deeply affected. This wonderful relaxing treatment is given whilst sitting in a chair. The Massage is carried out fully clothed and includes massage of the upper back, neck, shoulders, upper arms, scalp, hair and face.
