SMSTS is a five-day course that can be taken on a day or block release
basis. It trains each individual in the essential points of Health and Safety
and shows them how to measure Health and Safety performance on their own site.
At the end of the course, individuals have to pass a multiple-choice test, which qualifies them for the Construction Site Managers Safety Certificate.
This certificate expires every five years. After this period runs out, certificate
holders have to sit a two-day refresher course to renew their qualification for a further five years. This course brings them up-to-date with recent developments in construction legislation and health, safety, welfare and environmental issues.
