AIM:
To raise awareness of the diverse needs of disabled individuals and to increase confidence and effectiveness in working with and dealing with disabled people.
OUTCOMES:
• Identify what is considered disabled
• State the key legislation relating to discrimination and
equality issues about disability
• Identify the attitudinal and institutional barriers faced
by disabled children and adults
• Explore the social model of disability
• Identify the difference between disability and
impairment
• Be able to understand and demonstrate how to
implement positive methods of communication, and offer
an equal service to disabled people
• Identify how the social model can be put into practice.
