LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this course delegates should be able to:

> Give an understanding of the basic anatomy and
physiology of the ear and the need for preventative care,
including patient education and advice
> Demonstrate the safe and proficient use of basic aural
care instruments for the removal of wax, aural toilet
and ear syringing
> Reflect on accountability, documentation and the
management of change in relation to ear care
> Give a better understanding of people with hearing loss
and to consider the patient holistically when providing ear
care
> Identify common minor ear abnormalities and ailments
> Understand treatment of minor ear problems using best
practice rationales
> Correctly irrigate an ear for cerumen impaction and be
aware of the complications
