What is ICATS?
ICATS stands for 'Industrial Coating Applicator Training Scheme'. Is owned by Institute of Corrosion and operated through Correx Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Institute, and forms part of the Institute's training and certification portfolio. The ICATS scheme is a new comprehensive structured training scheme for the training, certification and registration of industrial surface preparation and coating operatives.

Why should I as an individual complete ICATS training:
Most industrial painting jobs will have a specification for ICATS approved contractors, meaning that any individual wishing to work on the project will be required to have an ICATS card. Where most companies are prepared to put their employees through the training they generally would prefer if their sub-contractors new employees already held the certificate. As a self-employed individual we believe already having ICATS training and certification will significantly increase your chances of securing work within the industrial painting and coatings industry.

How does ICATS relate to other skills and competency schemes?
ICATS delivers practical training for industrial surface preparation and coating operatives not offered by any other sector scheme. It incorporates up to date practices and use of current coating materials. ICATS exceeds the evidence of training requirements of existing NVQ's for Decorative, Finishing and Industrial Painting Operations.

What experience do I need?
There is no minimum experience requirement that must be met by candidates for the Industrial Coatings Applicator qualification

Our facility on the south coast is relaxed and easily accessible by road, rail or air.
Local hotels and small local B&B’s will provide cheap overnight accommodation for individuals staying over.

Also in this time of austerity we work with individuals with help and support towards the cost of training. We work with Job Centre Plus as well as the Skills Funding Agency to help people currently out of work to complete training then introduce them to companies looking for ICATS approved contractors.
