You will learn about:
Light sources
Properties of light
Built-in flash and flashguns
TTL & Manual flash modes
Balancing flash and ambient light
Introduction to off camera flash
Introduction to studio flash
Light modifiers
Lighting gels for colour correction and effects
Light meters
Portrait tips
Working with models and posing techniques
......and much more
The morning session will be classroom based going through the theory behind various lighting techniques and introducing you to the equipment at our disposal. In the afternoon we will have the opportunity to try out some of these techniques with a model in our impromptu studio space using both studio flash equipment and an off-camera wireless flash setup.
You will leave the course with a selection of fashion portrait images and a whole lot of knowledge about lighting to apply to your own subjects.
The workshop is being held at Sedgebrook Hall in Northamptonshire and includes a buffet lunch and refreshments throughout the day. The course will commence at 10am and finish around 4pm.
With a maximum class size of just eight and two tutors there will be the opportunity for one-to-one attention during the practical session to ensure that you are getting the most from the day.

You do not need to own a separate flashgun to take part in this course as you will be able to use our flash equipment during the practical session. You therefore only need to bring a camera and lens, however, if you do have your own flashgun you are welcome to bring it along so that we can advise any controls that you might be unsure of for when you are back home.
This course is suitable for you if you understand aperture and shutter speed and how to set them on your camera. We will be using the full manual exposure mode at some points during the day but you will be given full guidance on how this should be used and need not have used this before. This workshop is therefore the ideal follow-up to our Beginning DSLR Photography course or for those who are more comfortable with the basic photographic techniques.
Please note that this course is for DSLR's only. Unfortunately hybrid, compact system cameras or bridge cameras are not suitable. We also regret that due to the non-standard hotshoe used by Sony cameras, we will be unable to accommodate those on this course. If you are in any doubt as to whether your camera is suitable please contact us. If your camera is unsuitable for this course please remember that we can offer one-to-one sessions where we can further explore flash and portrait photography dedicated to your equipment.
