The first morning will be spent learning safe cutting techniques which you will need to use over the weekend. We will the go on to cordage both natural and artificial, you will be shown where to find natural cordage using the plants around you. A lesson in useful knots and lashing will come in handy for your shelter construction. Its then onto looking at the types of shelter used in bushcraft and wilderness living, you will be given a basha to erect using the knots learnt earlier. A break for lunch, then its straight onto constructing a weatherproof leaf litter shelter from what nature has to offer. Its then onto game preparation where you will be shown how to prepare the game ready for cooking.

After breakfast its straight onto fire lighting, we will go through the basic principles of fire lighting where you get a chance to have a go at fire by friction using the bow drill method. We will then go for a walk through the woods looking at the different types of trees around us and some of their uses. We will then go through the process of water collection, filtration and purification. A break for lunch, then its onto a competition where as team you will have to light a fire using the bow drill method and boil a pint of water.

Over the course of the weekend you will learn:


- How to light a fire (without matches)
- Construct a weatherproof Shelter
- Some basic knots and lashings
- How to find water and make it safe to drink
- How to identify useful trees and plants
- Game preparation and cooking techniques
- Navigation using natures help
- Safety with back country cutting tools

This course will be run on one day starting at 9am and finishing at 4pm.
