A great day course where you will begin looking at the basic principles of fire lighting from tinder selection through to main fuel. You will get a chance to carve some feather sticks and make your own charcloth, which you will use to start a fire with later. We will go through some fire lighting techniques from the primitive flint and steel through to modern methods. It then onto carving your very own bow drill set, you will be guided through selecting suitable materials to use, carving techniques and the bow drill technique it self.

Over the course of the day you will learn:

- Different ways to light a fire
- How to manage and maintain a fire
- How to find dry wood in all weathers
- Find/create different types of tinder both natural and artificial
- How to carve feather sticks and your very own bow drill set
- About the correct stance and bowing technique required to get an ember
- How to tidy away a fire and leave no trace.

This course is self catering, but there is always tea and biscuits available.

This course will be run on one day starting at 9am and finishing at 4pm.

Minimum aged is 8 years old (any under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a fully paying adult).
