Learners will examine their attitude to people who use illegal drugs or misuse legal drugs such as alcohol, and learn about the importance of taking a non-judgemental approach to support.

The course also looks at the dangers of people combining drugs with prescribed medication and the purpose of risk assessments.

Finally, the course considers the legal implications of service users misusing substances and identifies the sources of support and advice learners might need to access on their behalf.

The course has been developed in association with British Institute of Learning Disabilities and Voyage Care.
