Fast -Track Gas Foundation Course (10 sessions)

Who is this course aimed at:

This course is aimed at new applicants into the gas industry, gas engineers who hold expired ACS or ACOPs certificates or gas engineers who hold a foreign gas qualification.

Applicants for this course (that are classed at CAT 2 or CAT 3) must be able to demonstrate that they have previous plumbing experience and/or formal qualifications in plumbing or a related industry.

Gas Portfolio:

CAT 2 & CAT 3 Individuals must have a Gas Safe registered engineer to work alongside, under direct supervision on a regular basis in order to build up and complete a portfolio of gas work bases evidence.

Only on completion of the portfolio will the entrant be in a position to take the ACS exams and assessments. The gas portfolio is supplied as part of the course alongside guidance and advice on how to complete it.

Course Structure:

The course is delivered on a one day a week (Friday) basis, over a ten week duration, its objective being to provide an individual with a foundation of knowledge and understanding that must be gained before entering the gas industry and ultimately Gas Safe Registration.

Course overview:

Testing and purging of domestic gas installations

Combustion

Flues

Ventilation Controls for gas appliances

Gas pipe work

Gas industry legislation

Installation of domestic gas appliances

Commissioning of domestic gas appliances

Servicing of domestic gas appliances

Maintenance of domestic gas appliances

Unsafe situations

ACS Gas Assessments:

On completion of the portfolio of work based evidence the candidate will be in a position to undertake their ACS CCN1 CPA1 assessments (3 days)

Gas Safe Registration:

On successful completion of the ACS CCN1 assessments the candidate will be classed as a CAT 1 and the qualification will be registered with BPEC by the Plumbing Academy.

This qualification leaves the individual qualified and in a position to register to Gas Safe. Gas Safe is a registration body that is contracted by the government to regulate Gas safety (formerly contracted to CORGI).

It is the responsibility of the individual to register with Gas Safe. To work on gas legally the individual must be registered with Gas Safe.
