What topics are covered by the course?

What you will study Whilst on the course you will study the anatomy and physiology of the human body, how to plan, prepare and deliver safe and effective gym-based exercise programmes, the health benefits of physical activity, the importance of healthy eating and much more. You may also have the opportunity to study a range of relevant additional qualifications such as Pool Lifeguard, First Aid and Nutrition. Maths and English are key elements of any full-time programme of study in College. If you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*-C in these subjects, you will need to attend sessions allocated on your timetable. These are varied and designed to cater for all ability levels. You will receive advice and guidance regarding the correct level for you. Skills in Maths and English will support your full-time course, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C. This is why the development of Maths and English is so important, whatever your field of study.

Who should attend?

Entry Requirements Four GCSEs grade A* - D including English or relevant Level 1 qualification with Merit grade, or Level 2 Sports qualification. Experience of the workplace or fitness industry may be considered. You will also need Level 1 numeracy. If you do not have the relevant numeracy qualification, we can assess your current level.

What will I be able to do on completion?

Further study Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training. Career opportunities Progress directly into employment in a gym, fitness centre or leisure centre as a health and fitness instructor.
