Supporting People with Down Syndrome
Sponsored links
This e-learning course explores what Down Syndrome means to the people who have the condition. It includes a series of audio clips of interviews with Marianne and Lois, who explain how it feels and the impact it has on their lives. Gaining a better understanding of the condition will help learners to provide people with the help and support they need.
The course examines how Downs Syndrome can affect an individual in terms of their health (in the short and long term), their general safety and their ability to communicate, and ways in which learners can help them to overcome some of their difficulties.
It also looks at how a person-centred approach to planning support is beneficial, what is meant by the term ‘circles of support’ and how they can be used to plan how to meet a person’s needs.
The course also examines how integration into the community, ‘time banks’ and employment possibilities can help people with Down Syndrome to live more fulfilling lives.
