The qualification is suitable for those who work or want to work as:
• teachers in the Lifelong Learning Sector, ie further, adult and community education, work-based learning and the voluntary sector.
• technicians and support staff in further and adult education.
You need a total of 24 credits to achieve this qualification.
You must complete:
• three mandatory units totalling 18 credits
Unit 1 Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (may be APL’d)
Unit 2 Planning and Enabling Learning
Unit 3 Principles and Practice of Assessment
• option unit totalling six credits

Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector is accredited for learners aged 19 years and over.
Candidates should be qualified/experienced in the subject they intend to teach, have access to 30 teaching practice hours and possess reasonable levels of language, literacy and numeracy. In addition, the nature of both the learning and assessment required for the qualification is such that candidates should have the ability to manage the requirements of the level of the qualification they are taking, read and interpret written tasks, and to write answers in a legible and understandable form.
Assessment
Candidates must be observed for at least three hours over a minimum of three occasions of their 30 teaching practice hours.
Each observation must be for a minimum of 30 minutes and must be in the candidate’s place of work, producing a portfolio of formal teaching observations
Criterion referenced, based on the achievement of the contextualised pass criteria within each Unit.
The practical and theoretical evidence will be internally and externally verified according to current practice applied to Edexcel’s BTEC specialised and Short Courses.
