This interactive and experiential University of Cambridge course gives students the opportunity to observe coaching in action and then develop their coaching skills. During a 2-day workshop and 5 weeks of self study, it covers the coaching ‘fundamentals' and ensures that students on the course have a common understanding of coaching and a solid foundation for their personal development as coaches.

By the end of the 5 week course students will have a robust understanding of the theories and concepts that underpin coaching in practice; the role coaching plays in a variety of contexts; and the inter-relationship of the concepts of coaching, mentoring, counselling and training.

Students will be able to develop understanding and skills in:

* Role, qualities and skills of an effective coach
* Origins and theories of coaching
* Knowledge of different coaching and mentoring applications
* Use of simple coaching models
* Conduct a coaching session using a coaching model
* Fundamental coaching concepts of awareness & responsibility
* Core components of a coaching session

This course is part of the Certificate in Coaching awarded by the University of Cambridge Institute of Continuing Education.

A 2 day, non-residential workshop will take place on the 26 - 27 April 2011 at Madingley Hall, followed by a period of on-line study. Attendance at both days of the workshop is required, and if you wish to study for credit, assessment for the course will be through written assignments to be completed by the end of the course. This course is worth 20 credits at FHEQ level 4.
