What you will study
For the Award you will study the mandatory Health & Safety unit plus a further two units: Introduction to Engineering Equipment and Materials, and Introduction to Spark Ignition Power Units.
For the Diploma you will study the mandatory Health & Safety unit plus: Introduction to Engine Liquid Cooling and Engine Lubrication Systems, Introduction to Steering and Suspension, Introduction to Vehicle Braking Systems, Introduction to Vehicle Inspection, Introduction to Vehicle Wheels and Tyres, Introduction to Vehicle Valeting, and Introduction to Battery and Lighting Systems.

Classroom: 50%; Practical: 50%
How you will learn
In the College’s fully-equipped motor vehicle workshops and in the classroom.
The course is divided into two qualifications (Award and Diploma). The Award is delivered over a 12 week period and the Diploma over 24 weeks. Provided your performance is satisfactory, you will progress through the qualifications to complete the Diploma at the end of 36 weeks.
How you will be assessed
Continuous assessment of practical workshop tasks and compilation of a portfolio of evidence of tasks completed, plus oral and written tests.
Entry Requirements
Entry 3 literacy and numeracy qualifications. If you do not have these, we can assess your current level of literacy and/or numeracy.
You will also need a genuine interest in the subject and lots of enthusiasm, demonstrated at the selection tests and interview.
Attendance
On successful completion of the first 12 weeks (Award) you will then move on to the 24 week Diploma.
Your attendance record, behaviour and dedication to the course must be satisfactory, or you may not be invited to move on to the next level.
