The NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Drug Awareness has been accredited by the qualifications regulators for England, Wales and Northern Ireland1and is part of the National Qualifications Framework.
The NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Drug Awareness was originally developed by NCFE and Wigan Drug Action Team as a short, awareness raising course for students in schools and colleges and those from a wider audience who have an interest in raising their own understanding of drug use in our society.
This is an ideal qualification for providing candidates with a basic standard upon which study at
higher levels may be based. In addition, candidates undertaking the qualification will benefit from:
- an accessible and flexible course suitable for all members of the general public
- accurate and up to date knowledge, at a basic level, of drugs and drug use
- achievement of a nationally available qualification
There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. Access to this
qualification is open to all candidates; however, a basic level of numeracy and literacy is required
tocomply with the Health and Safety and assessment aspects of the qualification.

The course consists of the following one mandatory unit:
- Unit 01 Develop an awareness of drug use
The Guided learning hours (GLH) for the course is 9 hours. You will be required to complete a workbook which will be assessed internally. Please note that there are no skills outcomes for this qualification. Candidates must successfully complete this unit to be awarded the NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Drug Awareness.
