What you will study
You will learn all the practical skills required in the construction of brickwork. At this level these will include decorative brickwork, repair and maintenance of masonry structures and erection of complex masonry structures. You will also study theoretical elements including technical drawing, technology, health and safety and site procedures.
You will also work towards Functional Skills qualifications in Communications and Application of Number.
Your Course Structure
Classroom: 40%; Practical: 60%
How you will learn
You will spend a considerable amount of time in the workshops undertaking realistic practical projects which will enhance the skills that you are developing in the workplace. You will also attend tutorial style sessions where you will work through study packages to gain the necessary theoretical knowledge.
How you will be assessed
Continuous assessment of your practical tasks and online tests at the end of each unit.
Entry Requirements
You will need to be employed in a role which includes bricklaying in order to undertake this course.
You will be required to sit a selection test and, if successful, an interview with the course tutor. You will need to be able to exhibit Level 2 competence in practical and theoretical aspects of bricklaying, and possess Level 2 qualifications in literacy and numeracy. If you do not have the relevant level of qualification, we can assess your current level of literacy and/or numeracy.
Attendance
Attendance in College is on one day per week. This is expected to be Thursday and hours of attendance will be from 9 am to 8 pm. An additional block week for assessment purposes may be required in February/March.
