What you will study

e-type is the quick and easy way to learn to touch-type with ten fingers. You are guided through the course of ten comprehensive and enjoyable lessons in a planned and logical sequence which takes you on the shortest path to learning.

How you will learn

You will be assigned your own unique Logon to access the Online e-type Courseware. Each self-paced lesson builds on the skills learned in previous lessons and at each step you are encouraged and motivated to continue. The course alternates between speed practice and accuracy lessons to improve skills in both areas.

We recommend that you work for around half an hour to an hour a day over a period of 20 days or more. It is best to try to use the course each day during this period rather than have long gaps of several days' inactivity between each session.

How you will be assessed

In-built reporting and assessment tools enable an accurate snapshot of your progress to be obtained at any time.

You will need to come into College to sit your Assessment and your final test(s). When your tutor is satisfied that you have reached the minimum standard to pass, you will come into College to sit an Assessment test which will indicate whether or not you are ready to take a test for real. The e-type tests consist of five-minute examinations which measure the speed and accuracy of your typing. Marking is electronic so you will be presented with your result on-screen immediately after completion of the test.
There are 3 grades (Bronze, Silver and Gold) for the e-type qualification and these are based on typing speed. There are 3 tests available for each candidate.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, but prior to Induction candidates will be assessed to ascertain the most appropriate level for them to be enrolled on.

You will need to be using a PC at home or at work in order to access the software for the course and it is advisable that you also have Internet access so that you can communicate effectively with your online tutor.

Attendance

You will attend an Induction session at the College where you will enrol and be given your Memory Stick containing all your courseware. You will also be introduced to your online tutor. You will have up to 12 weeks to complete Level 1 or up to 14 weeks to complete Level 2. If you complete Level 1 and wish to progress to Level 2, you will pay the tuition fee again and this will give you access to the course for a further 14 weeks.

You will also attend the College to sit your test(s) in the presence of a BCS registered invigilator.
