What you will study

You must complete four units (eight credits in total) to obtain the Award:-

1. Dementia awareness - what dementia is, the different forms it takes, and how others can have an impact on the individual with dementia.
2. The person centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia - provides the knowledge and understanding required to enable the individual with dementia to experience well-being.
3. Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care - introduces the concepts of equality, diversity and inclusion that are fundamental to person centred care.
4. Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia - provides the underpinning knowledge required to develop awareness of differing communication needs and abilities of individuals with dementia in order to enhance positive interaction.

How you will learn

This is a distance learning programme. Study materials will be provided and your tutor will give you individual support via the telephone and detailed written feedback on your assignments. You work at your own pace, but you are expected to complete the units regularly.

How you will be assessed

You will compile a portfolio of evidence (such as assignments, projects or reports) showing that you have met the standards required in each unit.
