What you will study

COMPULSORY UNITS:-

* Communicating in the IT Industry
Enables learners to use IT tools to communicate and exchange information safely, securely and effectively with different audiences. Learners will also consider the impacts of IT.

* Working in the IT Industry
Ensures that learners have knowledge of the job roles available which require professional IT skills and the characteristics employers demand in the IT industry.

* Computer Systems
Introduces learners to the basic hardware and software components that make up computer systems and provides opportunities for learners to carry out basic installation and configuration.


Four specialist units:-

* Database Systems
* Website Development
* Installing Computer Hardware
* Spreadsheet Modelling

ADDITIONAL INTEGRAL QUALIFICATIONS:-

* Functional Skills English
* Functional Skills Maths
* Preparation for Working Life

There will also be opportunity for learners with grade D in English or Maths to take GCSE resits in these subjects.


Your Course Structure

Classroom: 30%; Practical: 70%


How you will learn

Theory and practical lessons using the latest computer software and hardware.


How you will be assessed

Continuous assessment involving portfolio building for the main programme. Functional Skills will be assessed by either a portfolio of evidence or an external test.


Entry Requirements

Four GCSEs at grade A* - D including either English, Maths or Science plus a minimum of grade D in English.
OR
Relevant Level 1 qualification at Merit level, plus Functional Skills English and Maths at Entry Level 3 and a satisfactory reference.


Attendance

You will be expected to attend College for at least 19 hours per week. Further self-study will be required for completion of research and assignment work but access to computers will be available.
