How you will learn

Study will involve presentations, practical activities, written assignments and discussions.

How you will be assessed

Assessment takes place through course assignments and examinations. Each six or three credit unit at Level 3 will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. This will be printed on the HE Diploma, and the Diploma is worth 60 credits at Level 3.

Attendance

Attendance

(a) The Access to Higher Education Programme (full-time) will normally involve student contact time of a minimum of 450 hours, covering lectures, seminars, tutorials and practical work. In addition to this, students will carry out other directed study and private study.
(b) The course (full-time mode of attendance) will normally occupy one year (36 weeks). Part-time achievement of credit should be completed within five years.
c) Separate part-time attendance for the Nursing pathway may be offered. The other pathways are full-time. The progression pathway at Level 2 is normally full time but over three days.

Entry Requirements

Students will be expected to bring maturity and good organisational skills to the course which may have been acquired through life experience e.g. working (paid or voluntary), having a caring role. This should be referred to on the application form. Many students return to study before applying for the Level 3 Access course and with increasing competition for HE places it is essential that you have evidence of Level 2 studying and a Level 2 literacy qualification. Many universities require GCSE English, Maths and a Science. If you require these then it is possible that we shall be able to offer the subjects along with IT as a one year progression course at Level 2 leading to the Level 3 Access the following year. Interest in this can be indicated on the application form. It might also be possible for Level 3 students to take a GCSE alongside the Access programme. All applicants who meet the entry requirements for the progression course or the Level 3 Access will be interviewed following a written assessment and satisfactory interview.
